Our Story
Rooted in Tradition.
Driven by Soul.
The Beginning
A 3,000-Year Tradition
Long before the first cities rose in the Maghreb, Amazigh women of the Atlas Mountains were weaving. Not just rugs — stories. Maps of the cosmos. Letters to their daughters. Records of births, harvests, migrations.
Every geometric motif in an Amazigh rug is a word. Every border is a sentence. Every finished rug is a poem, written in wool and time.
Soul Rugs was founded to bring this living art form to the world — and to ensure the women who create it receive fair recognition and fair pay.
Our Values
What We Stand For

Every rug is entirely handmade using traditional Amazigh techniques. No machines. No shortcuts.
Fair Trade
We pay our artisan partners above fair-trade wages and work exclusively with women-led cooperatives in rural Morocco.
Sustainability
We use only natural wool and plant-based dyes. Our packaging is plastic-free and our shipping is carbon-neutral.
Cultural Preservation
We help preserve a living tradition recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage.
From Atlas to Your Home
The Journey of a Soul Rug
Shearing & Washing
Raw wool is hand-sheared from Atlas sheep, washed in mountain streams, and dried in the sun.
Carding & Spinning
The wool is hand-carded to align the fibers, then spun into yarn on a traditional drop spindle.
Natural Dyeing
Yarns are dyed using plants, minerals, and bark — saffron, pomegranate, indigo, henna.
Weaving
The artisan weaves from memory, following patterns inherited from her grandmother, knot by knot.
Finishing & QC
The rug is washed, trimmed, and inspected. Only pieces meeting our quality standard ship worldwide.
